The Royal Springboard

The Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation (RNCSF) widens access to the opportunities available in state boarding and independent schools for young people facing the greatest barriers to their development.

Applications to RNCSF

The Royal National Children’s SpringBoard Foundation (RNCSF) secures fully funded places at state boarding or independent school for children with significant experience of social care. These include children who have faced significant early years trauma and adverse childhood experiences. They include:

  • Previously Looked After Children (SGO/Adopted)
  • Young people with significant social care experience
  • Young people in care
  • Young Carers

We require that referrals for boarding places should come from children’s services professionals working with a family. We feel that these professionals are well placed to support parents or carers through the application process. We know that for some PLAC young people, there will no longer be active professional involvement and so in these circumstances we can accept and application led by a Designated Teacher or Designated Safeguarding Lead at school

We recognise that boarding will not be the right option for some care experienced children/young people. That’s why we have extended our CEVC programmes to offer opportunities at leading independent day schools to those children for whom this is a more appropriate option

We encourage you to apply as early as possible for the greatest chance of securing a school recommendation. However, we also advise that no school placement is 100% guaranteed and stress that you continue with applications to state school options in parallel.

The majority of our places are for children entering year 7 and 12 though we do have limited availability for entry at years 5-9.

Please note that applications for support will be means tested to ensure that the opportunities are provided for those who will benefit most
