Eligibility
All recipients must meet all the following criteria items
- Be a child
- Up to the age of 19
- Be an adopted child
- The adoption may have been carried out in any country
- Official proof of adoption to be submitted. For adoptions that took place outside of the U.K., the documentation provided must be recognized as valid by the U.K. government
- Proof of U.K. adoptions may be full birth certificate (Adoption Certificate)
- Regular resident in the U.K.
- Nationality and Visa status are not a factor
- The grant may only be used for educational purposes
- Household income up to £70.000 gross, before taxes, per annum
- Any other savings up to £50.000
- Any untruths or misinformation provided in the application will result in the immediate cancellation of the grant and return of any monies to The Athlone Trust CIO
Other terms and conditions
- All submitted documents must be in English
- The trust reserves the right to change any part of this grant
- The trust reserves the right to cancel this grant at any time
- The trust reserves the right to change the deadline for submissions at any time if sufficient qualifiable applications have been received
- The grant will provide financial support of up to £500
- Should the cost of the purpose be higher than the value of the grant, the grant will be awarded up to its maximum value
- Should the cost of the purpose be lower than the value of the grant, the remaining amount will remain with The Athlone Trust CIO and put forward additional grants, it will not be given to the applicant
- All moneis will be provided directly to the supplier of the services, shop, etc. It will not be given to the applicant
Educational purposes list
This is an extensive and non-exhaustive list. Other purposes for use of this grant may be considered.
Exclusions: General school fees, purely recreational activities without a clear educational link, or items already adequately provided by the school.
- School-Related Costs:
- School Trips and Excursions: Funding for trips that are directly linked to the curriculum (e.g., museum visits, historical sites, science centers, field studies).
- Educational Workshops and Programs: Covering costs for specialized workshops offered by external providers that enhance learning in specific subjects (e.g., coding, creative writing, science experiments).
- Revision Materials and Guides: Purchase of study guides, past papers, and other resources to support exam preparation.
- Subject-Specific Equipment: Modest costs for essential equipment directly related to a school subject (e.g., a basic art set, a scientific calculator beyond what the school provides).
- Tutoring and Academic Support:
- One-on-One or Small Group Tutoring: Funding for a limited number of sessions with a qualified tutor in a subject where the child needs extra support.
- Online Learning Platforms and Subscriptions: Access to reputable educational websites or apps that provide learning resources and activities aligned with the curriculum.
- Books and Learning Materials:
- Textbooks and Workbooks: If not fully provided by the school.
- Educational Software and Apps: Purchase of programs that aid learning in specific subjects (within the grant limit).
- Age-Appropriate Non-Fiction Books: To support research, projects, and general knowledge.
- Specialized Learning Materials: For children with specific learning needs (e.g., dyslexia-friendly books, visual aids).
- Assistive Technology and Specialist Equipment (Partial Funding):
- Contribution towards the cost of essential assistive technology or specialist equipment that directly supports learning. Examples include adapted keyboards, speech-to-text software (annual subscription), or basic sensory tools.
- Arts and Cultural Enrichment (with Educational Link):
- Music Lessons (Short Term): A block of introductory or supplementary music lessons.
- Art Classes or Workshops: Focused on developing specific artistic skills relevant to school projects or personal development.
- Drama or Theatre Workshops: That build communication skills, confidence, and understanding of literature.
- Visits to Theatres, Art Galleries, or Museums (with educational focus beyond school trips).
- Science and STEM Activities (Beyond School):
- Science Kits or Equipment for Home Learning: To encourage hands-on exploration and understanding of scientific concepts.
- Participation Fees for STEM Clubs or Workshops (External to School).
- Materials for Science Fairs or Projects.
- Language Learning (Beyond School):
- Language Learning Software or Online Courses (within the grant limit).
- Introductory Language Classes or Workshops.
- Support for Educational Access and Well-being (Directly Linked to Learning):
- Transportation Costs (Specific Educational Activity): Limited contribution towards travel expenses to attend a specific educational program, workshop, or tutoring session that is not easily accessible.
- Essential School Supplies: If there are significant costs beyond basic provisions (e.g., specialist art supplies, a scientific calculator required for exams).
- Internet Access or Devices (Supporting Learning):
- A contribution towards a short-term internet access cost if it’s a barrier to online learning resources.
- A small contribution towards a basic device (e.g., a Chromebook or tablet) if it’s essential for accessing educational materials and there’s no other provision. This would likely be a partial contribution.
- Therapeutic Support Related to Learning (Initial Assessment or Limited Sessions):
- Contribution towards an initial assessment by a speech therapist, occupational therapist, or educational psychologist if it directly impacts the child’s ability to learn.
- A limited number of therapy sessions directly linked to improving learning (e.g., speech therapy for literacy development).
- Extracurricular Activities with Clear Educational Outcomes:
- Coding Clubs or Workshops: Developing digital literacy and problem-solving skills.
- Debate or Public Speaking Clubs: Enhancing communication and critical thinking.
- Lego Robotics or Similar STEM-focused clubs.
- Creative Writing Groups (outside of school).
